Royal Caribbean have set the bar high with their new ship Quantum of the Seas: the newest addition in a long line of innovative ships. With details about Quantum’s features, spaces and multi-talented godmother public, people are buzzing about all the new ship has to offer.
For many, the North Star is the most exciting reveal. Condé Nast Traveler claims the glass capsule offering panoramic sea views stole the show, describing it as “an articulating observation arm inspired by London’s Millennium Eye.” Cruise Critic highlights the logistics of riding in the North Star, including its capacity to hold up to 13 passengers and one staff member, as well as premium flight packages for special occasions.
Other technological firsts getting their fair share of attention are the skydiving simulator RipCord by iFLY and the transformational SeaPlex space. Yahoo Travel says RipCord “scores cool points” by allowing participants to float and experience the feeling of skydiving, while the SeaPlex shape-shifts from a roller-skating, bumper car and circus hotspot by day to a hopping dance club at night.
Emphasizing Quantum’s focus on families, multi-use spaces and roomy accommodations, Gadling rounded up the rest of the ship’s defining features. Writer Chris Owen says the staterooms are nearly 10% larger than those on previous Oasis-class ships and highlights their customizable layouts. ChildMode discusses how the interior staterooms without windows will have virtual balconies to provide real-time ocean views.
A ship as multi-faceted as Quantum needs a godmother to match, and triple-threat Kristin Chenoweth is filling that role. JustJared mentions the gorgeous blue dress she wore at the event while Fodors talks about how she will go beyond the ceremonial role to help shape entertainment offerings on board.
Quantum will set sail from the New York area in Fall 2014.
