Porridge is a Great Start to The Day But It Can Be a Little Drab so Pump Up The Flavour

It’s that time of year again and there’s nothing better for you than a hot bowl of porridge that will keep you satisfied until lunchtime!

We’ve stopped peeking out the window in the morning because we know that the day will involve some level of umbrella holding and involuntary teeth chattering.

Although breakfast is always the most important meal of the day, a healthy breakfast is even more important in the cold because a strong body means that you will be more resistant to those pesky colds and flus!

Porridge is a great winter breakfast and will warm your belly before stepping outside to face the elements. However because it can be a bit boring sometimes we have some tummy-rumbling tips to pump up the flavor.

Everyone in your family will enjoy these tasty recipes!

Raisin and Cinnamon Porridge

We love the hot burst of tasty raisin and the warming smell of cinnamon in the morning and this is a regular combination in our kitchen. Whether you’re making your porridge in the microwave or on the hob, add the raisins to the oats after you’ve poured in the milk. The raisins soak up the creamy milk and become sweet morsels while the cinnamon provides certain sweetness in itself.

Honey and Almonds

We love the crunchiness of the almonds and the sticky sweet flavours of a delicious spoon of honey. When making your porridge, add a tablespoon of honey to the bowl or pan and when cooked, sprinkle chopped, toasted almonds onto the surface.

Frozen Berries and Natural Yoghurt

Frozen berries are a godsend, especially if you are single or feel that fresh fruit in your house often goes to waste. Add the berries into your porridge and cook the mixture until the berries are warm and soft. The berries will release a sweet juice into your breakfast that will have you licking your lips. Top off the porridge with a dollop of natural yoghurt.

Peanut Butter and Banana

In our opinion, peanut butter and banana are the best of friends. Whether on a sandwich or in this case porridge, they are always delicious. In this combination we like our banana steaming and sweet so we add both to our porridge straight after the milk, cooking the whole thing together. If you’d rather firmer bananas, add them once the porridge is finished cooking.

Vanilla and Cranberries

Dried cranberries are available in most supermarkets and they are nice to have in your cupboard to throw into an array of breakfast cereals. However, we love cranberries in porridge with a drop of vanilla. The sweet smell of vanilla makes breakfast a treat and as the cranberries soak up the milk they become soft and succulent bites.
