Organisers of the innovative literary project Dublin: One City, One Book have chosen an anthology of poetry and song as its title for 2014.
“If Ever You Go: A Map of Dublin in Poetry & Song” is a collection of work that has a connection with Dublin.
“This is an exciting first for One City One Book. We expect If Ever You Go to build on the initiative’s success in showcasing great Dublin writing to a wider audience,” said Dublin City Librarian Margaret Hayes.
Among the featured lyricists and poets are Jonathan Swift, JM Synge, WB Yeats, James Joyce, Patrick Kavanagh, Máirtín Ó Direáin, as well as Seamus Heaney, Eavan Boland and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill.
“There are songs and ballads from the city’s colonial past, verses by leaders of the 1916 Rising, and portraits of the modern city with its Spire and Luas tram, its Celtic Tiger ‘prosperity’ and its post-Celtic Tiger challenges” say the organisers.
Last year saw Strumpet City by James Plunkett chosen as the 2013 book for the year.
The full programme of associated events will be launched in March 2014.
