Coming up to Christmas, it’s hard not to think of those less fortunate.
People who are struggling to get by. People who might have personal issues.
Or those who are homeless during some of the coldest days of the year.
A 20-year old college student in Portland, Maine has started to spread some warmth and love this festive season, by surprising the homeless population with warm coats to try and help keep them warm over the coming weeks.
Gabby Kaper recently went into a local charity shop and with $5 bought five single coats.

She then proceeded to attach them to lampposts in Portland with a note fixed on each garment:
“I am not lost! Please take me if you need me!”
According to WCSH6 news, Kaper distributed the coats during the evening, and all five were gone by the morning.
When asked about her motivation behind her acts of kindness, Kaper explained:
“I hate seeing people in need that aren’t getting the support that they need.
“I’m a college student, so I don’t have that much money. So there’s really no excuse for not being able to help.”
The college student added that although she doesn’t have a lot of money, she think it’s always possible to help those less fortunate:
“People are homeless, people cold. $5 to make five people less freezing, $5 to make someone sleep a little better tonight, $5 may be very little to me but very important to another. I encourage everyone to give this a try this season.”
