What an absolute legend.
Whether you truly believe your school days were the best days of your life, or you spent your days there counting down to freedom, chances are there was one teacher who made a big impact on you.
That was certainly the case for the students of Colaiste an Chroi Naofa, Carraig na bhFear, who had the pleasure of being taught by one Mr. Frank Lombard.
One decade ago, Lombard set his young charges an assignment – to write a letter to their 2013 self.
Last week, the long forgotten letter arrived in the letterboxes of his past pupils. Lombard had kept the students’ ramblings for ten years, and posted them to the real 2013 versions of his young charges.
This letter is one Oonagh Crotty wrote to herself in 2003. Sent on to us by her pal Claire Casey, the girls write; “No wonder he was everyone’s favourite teacher”. Quite.
Oonagh's letter reads:
(1st day back in our last year) 03-09-03
Dear Oonagh (in 10 years time),
This letter will be sent to you by Mr. Lombard your Tech. Graph. Teacher all through secondary school. He told our class to write a letter to ourselves i and write down where we think we’ll be in ten years time. and he’d send it to us. He got this idea from friends the T.V. programme. I see myself struggling to get my own architecture firm underway but when it gets going it will be extremely successful. I can also see myself training my local athletics club and being a “fit-a-holic”. I think I’d be living in London or America or somewhere in Cork or Dublin (probably London). I (hopefully) will be married and have a GORGEOUS Johnny Depp look-a-like husband/boyfriend.
Carpe Dium,
Oonagh (10 years ago).
P.S. Wrote all the stuff at the top just so you wouldn’t be freaked out. [SIC]
Having spoken to Claire, we can confirm Oonagh is yet to find the Johnny Depp lookalike. Not to worry, there's still plenty of time Oonagh!
Hat tip: Claire Casey sent us this one on Facebook – thanks Claire! If you’ve spotted something weird or wonderful you think should feature on Her.ie, get in touch! You’ll find us on Twitter here, on Facebook here or you can drop us a line to [email protected]!
