A badly judged headline has caused ripples today.
TV Veteran and esteemed Irish broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan passed away this weekend, the latest in a series of great losses in 2016.
With David Bowie passing away unexpectedly in January, tributes for both have been flooding in.
It is no surprise that many publications will refer to both deaths side by side, however, many have been taken aback by The Mail’s approach, which seems to have pitted the two against each other in a sort of “competition”.
The headline, which reads, “Why Wogan moved Britain in a way Bowie couldn’t”, has sparked outrage online with many deeming it insensitive and unneccessary.

Terrible headline from the Daily Mail tomorrow. Who in their right mind would turn two deaths into a competition? pic.twitter.com/nedB9aqxLm

#Daily Mail – you are truly pathetic. A competition about which dead celebrity moved Britain the most! WHY?
