Bing Crosby may have been dreaming of a White Christmas but snowy weather and icy roads are terrible winter nightmares that we hope to avoid this holiday season.
However, bookmakers Paddy Power have predicted that a snowy Christmas in Ireland is ‘more likely than usual.’
Those fond of a gamble can now place bets on whether or not it will be a white Christmas this year and Paddy Power predicts that there is a 20 per cent chance of snow falling on December 25th.
Chances of snow falling on Christmas Day in Belfast lay at 30 per cent.
In 2010, the bookmakers paid out €50,000 on Christmas day, despite the rules that stated fresh snow must fall on the day itself.
Paddy Power is dremaing of a white Christmas
While other bookmakers refused to pay out, Paddy must have had a bit of Christmas spirit about him!
According to The Irish Independent, the chance of Ireland having a white Christmas is higher due to high pressure, which will block our southwesterly breezes in December.
Forecaster Brian Gaze of The Weather Outlook said: “The chance of a white Christmas is above average, with signs of high pressure blocking increasing the chance of colder than average conditions.”
Her.ie thinks we’ll keep our money firmly in our pockets. Call us Scrooges be we hope this winter will be as mild as the last!
