Irish politician, Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has been receiving a lot of backlash on Twitter today following a tweet she sent out about Mother’s Day.
The politician seems to suggest that Mother’s Day and the celebration of the occasion, may come under threat if Ireland votes ‘yes’ to same-sex marriage on May 22nd in the referendum.
The senator tweeted this earlier today:
Happy Mothers’ day all! Hope we can continue to celebrate it after #SSM passed. In some US states Mothers & Father’s Day banned #pcgonemad

Unsurprisingly, Twitter users were quick to respond to the tweet:
fair play to Fidelma Healy Eames, doggedly refusing to understand twitter, controversy after controversy. — corruption aghast’r (@SenatorHealy) March 15, 2015
Fidelma Healy-Eames is really Ireland’s answer to Sarah Palin. Not just unintelligent but down right anti-intellectual.

Could it perhaps be that in their vetting process #ReNua actually turned Fidelma Healy Eames down? — Adam Hurley (@ATMH1994) March 15, 2015
Fidelma Healy Eames. The gift that keeps on giving. No car tax, no train ticket, no clue. Gombeen politics personified and we’re paying!

I’ll like to invent a Fidelma Healy Eames machine. Lots of noise and flashing lights. You put in 20 cent and it blurts out something dumb. — Mark O’Halloran (@markohalloran) March 15, 2015
To which she later replied:
Lying not my thing. No slur intended either. #justsaying Mother’s Day banned in a NY & Nova Scotia school. Happy Mothers Day!
