One Group of Volunteers is Crocheting Princess Wigs For Little Cancer Fighters

The wigs are created solely by volunteers and donations

Cassie Delaney

A very cool group of volunteers have come together to support children affected by cancer.

The Magic Yarn Project was founded by Holly Christensen. Holly worked as an oncology nurse and witnessed heart-breaking cancer battles throughout her career.

Holly writes;

“In 2014 upon learning that a friend’s daughter had been diagnosed with cancer and would likely be in the hospital for a while, I began to think of what I could do to help bring some magic and light to this little girl’s life during the difficult days that I know were ahead for her. Knowing how difficult it would be for her to lose her beautiful blonde curls, I made her a Rapunzel yarn wig and sent it in the mail”.

Holly was inspired by the child’s reaction and decided to spread the joy by making more wigs for young patients. She took to Facebook to ask for donations of yarn and within hours was inundated with responses. Now a team of volunteers is on hand to crochet beanies. In a workshop, they attach long strands of yarn and accessories to replicate the appearance of famous Disney princess locks.
