It's all about hand to eye coordination!

In our brand new series, our resident sports fanatic Mary takes on some of Ireland’s top female athletes to see if she has what it takes to compete with the best.

From chatting about their rigorous training programmes to taking us on to the pitch and right into the middle of the action, some of Ireland’s biggest names show Her.ie how it’s done.

Last week, we went head-to-head with Monaghan Senior Ladies Football team, while this week we faced off to current Women’s League Champions, Wexford Youths.

Mary says:

Throwing a GAA player out into the heart of a soccer pitch may not always be the best plan – especially if they are as uncoordinated as me.

The urge to catch the ball was so overwhelming I could barely cope, and I just couldn’t figure out how to header the ball.

Aside from all that, getting a glimpse behind the scenes of one of the most successful Irish soccer teams of the moment was an absolute honour and what I lacked in skill, I certainly made up for in enthusiasm!

The team are headed to the UEFA Champion’s League now in August, and we’ll certainly be cheering them on their way!
