We knew it was coming… but the Pope’s Twitter account is finally live. Just in time for Christmas…
The leader of the worldwide Catholic Church is using the @pontifex handle.
We’re patiently awaiting his first tweet, which will be broadcasted to the world through the social networking site on December, 12th.
The Pope is only following six other accounts, his language-specific profiles for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian and Arabic.
It has been known for a while that the Catholic Church leader would officially be coming to Twitter at some point this year, but there was some debate on what handle would be used.
And, although the Pope will have to scratch up on his hashtagging and Tweets, the Vatican isn’t a stranger to the micro-blogging network. It has a range of Twitter presences, including one for its online news site which was launched last year.
As of going 12:41, the leader has notched up a massive 32, 754 followers.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the account as we await his first tweets of wisdom next week, but for now we’re enjoying the Twitter world’s reaction to the network’s new addition. Get ready to giggle…
