We’ve all watched that scene from hit film, When Harry Met Sally, where Meg Ryan shows Billy Crystal just how easy it is to fake an orgasm. According to this next survey, a lot more ladies are putting in ‘O’scar winning performances in the bedroom.

Previous studies suggest that woman fake the Big ‘O’ in a bid to end a terrible sexual encounter, however now women ‘fake it until they make it’.

Folk from Pennsylvania-based Temple University and Ohio-based Kenyon College asked 481 females, all of whom were not in serious relationships, the taxing question about climaxing.

The new study, reported by Time Magazine, concluded with four main factors influencing females to fake it.

Altruistic deceit: faking orgasm out of concern for a partner’s feelings.

Fear and Insecurity: faking orgasm to avoid negative emotions associated with the sexual experience.

Sexual Adjournment: faking orgasm to end sex.

However it is reasons for “elevated arousal” that surprised us most.

“Elevated arousal – a woman’s attempt to increase her own arousal through faking orgasm and sexual adjournment – faking orgasm to end sex – were other factors that contributed to faking orgasms,” researchers explained.

The study published in the Journal of Sexual Archives revealed women are likely to pretend to climax in order to work themselves up to an actual orgasm and this is carried out instead of stopping the sexual encounter altogether.

Co-author of the study, Erin Cooper, explained: “I view this strategy as one of the many ‘tools in the toolbox’ women may use to enhance their own sexual experience.”
