Earlier this month, a homeless man called Billy Ray Harris was praised for his honesty when he returned a large engagement ring to its rightful owner after finding it in his change cup. Now, he’s set to recieve a very special thank you for his kind efforts.
The Telegraph reports that Sarah Darling (the woman who lost the ring) and her fiancé have set up a website seeking donations for Billy Ray, who can ususally be found begging at the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Already the fund has raised $148,000 for him.
“I think in our world we often jump to like the worst conclusion, and it just makes you realise that there are good people out there,” said Ms Darling.
Billy Ray Harris returned the ring because of his religious upbringing
Billy Ray discovered the large diamond engagement ring about an hour after Ms Darling dumped spare change from her purse into his cup. She had taken off her ring earlier that day and put it in with her change for safe keeping.
Ms Darling didn’t realise that she had lost the ring until the next day. She immediately went back to Billy Ray and told him that she might have given him something very valuable.
Billy Ray asked her if she had lost a ring and then returned it to her. Ms Darling was so thrilled, she gave him all the money that she had in her purse at the time.
“It seemed like a miracle. I thought for sure there was no way I would get it back,” said Ms Darling.

Billy Ray said that he returned the ring because he had a religious upbringing.
“My grandfather was a reverend. He raised me from the time I was six months old and thank the good Lord, it’s a bless, but I do still have som character,” said Billy Ray.
The fund that Ms Darling and her fiancé is continuing to grow and we can’t even begin to imagine how excited Billy Ray will be when he finds out what the couple have done for him.
