Over 300 people signed the card.
The 22nd of May will always have a special place in our hearts but it’s important to remember that Northern Ireland still don’t have equal marriage.
Love Equality NI have set up various campaigns to help promote the importance of marriage equality.
This week, Equal marriage campaigners took to the streets of Belfast in a festive appeal for equality.
On Thursday evening, campaigners went around asking members of the public to sign the ‘Big Gay Christmas Card’ to “ask Santa for equality this Christmas”.
They explain that the fun campaign is designed to enlist the support of Christmas shoppers and to spread a festive message of love which they hope will reach all the way to Stormont through the use of selfies and social media.
“Christmas is a time for families, for celebrating the time that we spend together and reflecting on the past year. We want to spread a message of equality and inclusion this Christmas. That is why we are asking people to get involved in the campaign for marriage equality and make a big impact by signing our huge Christmas card to ask Santa to bring us marriage equality for Christmas,” John O’Doherty of Love Equality said.
The card was signed by over 300 people on Thursday evening.
