We’re all for a spurge now and then but this is surely taking the proverbial.

A company in the US is now offering ‘luxury ice-cubes’, which are cut into perfect squares or spheres and offer “minimum dilution and maximum cooling”.  Gläce Luxury Ice Co claims that its product helps to “maximise the beverage experience” and is a healthier option than DIY ice-cubes made at home.

“Traditional machine-ice, generally made with local tap water, may contain upwards of 150 impurities and carcinogens, resulting in poor tasting and potentially unhealthy ice,” said a spokesperson for the company.

It’s believed that the cubes are popular at celebrity parties including LA Fashion Week and those held at the Playboy Mansion but if you want to recreate the experience at home, one cube will set you back $8 (€6) while a bag of 50 is priced at $325 (€239).
