Holy cow. An engineering institute in India is now accepting cattle in lieu of admission fees for students.
The Vudyadaan Institute of Tecnology and Management has decided that five cows and calves are a fair trade-off for a four year Bachelor of Technology degree.
Twenty seats on the 240-seat course have been reserved for families of the poor, who often have many animals but very little cash.
The only condition is that the cows must be producing milk. It’s fair to say that milk did not feature heavily in the kind of pints we remember from college, but the initiative has gone down a treat locally.
Speaking as part of a Gulf News report, student Akash Kumar Singh said; ‘I had never dreamt of getting myself admitted in an engineering college since my parents don’t have enough cash but today it’s dream come true for me.’
Sure, it sounds udderly ridiculous, but if the system works – milk it for all it’s worth!
