Meet the woman travelling around the world with her rescue dog

Megan Roantree

We want to join her.

Most of us are now back to work after the Christmas break, so now comes the time we begin to think about all our unrealistic dreams. Giving up your job and travelling the world with your pet, for example, might be one of your dreams.

While it seems like a wild idea beyond our reach, one woman decided to actually do it, and seems to be having an absolute ball.

Marina Piro restored a 5-door 2001 Renault Kangoo and added a bed, kitchenette and LED lights and set off with her rescue dog around the world.

With her van she called Pam and her dog Odie, Marina has been all over travelling through Europe visiting the likes of Florence and Venice.

Marina who is originally from Italy and was living in England until she went travelling, said she chose a van as it was easier to travel that way with a dog in tow.

”The main reason why I chose to be travelling by van was that I wanted to have Odie with me. A van seemed the most viable option.

Too many bus, train, plane companies do not accept dogs, not to mention the difficulties you might have to find a suitable accommodation.”

She also added that having a dog by her side brings her amazing company as well as safety.

”This is true especially if you are a solo traveler or/and a girlThe bigger and louder the dog the better. Odie does bark if he hears people that are too close to the van. Not sure if he would ever attack, but I do think that the “surprise effect” of a (big) dog barking would put off most prowlers. Same goes for walking alone in the evenings/night or hiking in remote places.”

Marina told Bored Panda she wants to travel for as long as she can and that she is documenting her journey to inspire other women to travel too.

“My main aim in the creation of Pamthevan‘s blog and Instagram page is to really empower women more than showing how “cool” my life is”
