They say persistence pays off, not for one French man who found himself on the wrong side of the law.
A 33-year-old male is facing jail time following some outrageous behaviour towards an ex-girlfriend.
The man, who has not been named, sent his ex a barrage of text messages and phone calls looking ‘thanked’ a.k.a. repayment for the renovations he had made to their apartment before they parted ways back in 2011.
Over the course of a 10-month period the man sent his former partner, a 32-year-old schoolteacher, wait for it, 21,807 texts and calls.
After blocking him from contacting her mobile, the man then redirected his calls to her parents and workplace.
The woman contacted authorities after her ex continued to harass her and the man brought was brought to a Lyon court on Thursday.
Manuella Spee, the woman’s legal representative, told Agence France-Presse that “police noted over 100 incoming calls during the 90 minutes it took to file charges”.
The man admitted to the court that his behaviour was “stupid”.
“At the time my logic was that until she returns the money, she pays back for work I carried in our apartment or at least says thank you, I would not stop the calls”.
The man was fined €1,000 and sentenced to four months in jail, with a six-month suspended sentence.
