If you’ve ever accidentally sent a text to the wrong person, then we imagine you’ll feel a certain degree of empathy for this poor guy. A young swimming coach was left absolutely mortified after he sent a raunchy text that was meant for his girlfriend, to every single contact in his phone book. Morto!
But wait, it gets worse. Poor Craig Evans actually ended up in prison for ‘sex offences’ because unfortunately there were two young schoolgirls listed in his phone book. Uh-oh.
The 24-year-old had typed an intimate message meant for the eyes of his girlfriend, asking her if she wanted to engage in some “skin on skin” action with him when he arrived home. Sadly, Craig’s finger accidentally slipped on the keyboard as he was sending the message and instead of sending it to his girlfriend, he sent it, via Blackberry Messenger, to all the numbers on his phone. Doh!
As if it wasn’t bad enough having to deal with the humiliation of explaining the mistake to his family members and friends, Craig also had to explain how the message had made its way to two girls aged 13 and 14.
Craig, who teaches swimming in a leisure centre, was arrested and charged with causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was jailed for 18 months at Birmingham Crown Court back in July, however his story unfolded in court this week after his lawyers went to the Court of Appeal in London to have his conviction overturned.
Ladies remember, it’s always a good idea to think before you text.
The lawyers argued that Craig’s “misguided use of his Blackberry” made it difficult to judge if he “was targeting anyone” specifically.
The appeal was granted and Lord Justice Elias agreed that the circumstances were “unusual” and that Craig had been “evidently misguided” in the use of his phone. Craig’s sentence was reduced to nine months and has been suspended “given the unusual circumstances.”
It sounds like an absolute nightmare! We imagine Craig will probably just use his phone for making calls from now on…
