A man has helped cure his wife’s amnesia by covering her hospital room in wedding photos after she suffered a brain haemorrhage.
In a story that competes with The Vow for most romantic story ever, Tunicia Hall had been married to Raleigh for only a month, when she suffered a brain haemorrhage, waking up with no memory of her wedding day or knowing who her husband was.
Speaking to NBC New York, Raleigh told press how his wife who he had known for 30 years turned to him, asking if they were married:
“I felt like I lost her. I was fighting to get her back. Whatever came to mind, I tried.”
Raleigh’s efforts to jog his wife’s memory of their life together included plastering her New York hospital room with pictures of their wedding day and snaps of their life together.
Although it was a slow process, Raleigh explained how Tunica’s memory began to return:
“The photos drew questions – when were we married? And she saw something and I believe what she saw was hope.”
Tunicia told reporters:
“The pictures helped. I would look at the pictures and it would bring back memories.”
Thanks to the efforts of her family and friends, her memory has now fully returned. Tunicia’s doctor has said Raleigh was key in jogging his wife’s memory:
“It’s not just medical science that is bringing patients back, it’s their families.”
After the long struggle to bring back her memory, the couple celebrated their three-month wedding anniversary this week.
Proof that love conquers all.
