It seems like we’re not the only ones who are a little bit obsessed with vampires at the minute. Although, while our excitement stems from the release final Twilight film in Serbia it’s a completely different story – apparently there’s a real-life vampire on the loose.
Orange reports that sales of garlic have sky rocketed in Serbia after the local council issued a public health warning which stated that a vampire was on the loose. Yes, an actual vampire.
The warning was issued after the ruins of an old mill collapsed unexpectedly. These ruins were said to have once been the home of Sava Savanovic, a notorious vampire in Serbian folklore.
According to local folklore, Savanovic lived in the old watermill in Zarozje village, where he drank the blood of anyone who went to the mill to grind their grain.
The ruins were eventually bought by a local family and they began using it as a tourist attraction (mainly because they were too terrified to use it as a mill). However, the family was worried about carrying out building work to secure the mill because they were afraid they would disturb the vampire or unleash his wrath if his home was messed around with without his permission.
The property has now collapse and locals believe that Savanovic is now free and roaming the area.
We wonder if Savanovic looks anything like Edward Cullen?
“People are worried, everybody knows the legend of this vampire and the thought that he is now homeless and looking for somewhere else and possibly other victims is terrifying people. We are all frightened,” said Miodrag Vujectic, the mayor of Zarozje.
The mayor added that it was fine for people who didn’t live in the area to laugh at their beliefs, but he said that everyone within the region firmly believed that vampires do exist.
According to reports, the local council has advised all villagers to put garlic on their doors and windows to protect them from the vampire.
“We have also reminded them to put a holy cross in every room in the house,” said Mayor Vujetic.
We imagine it won’t be long before the little village is completely overrun with Twihards looking for their very own, real-life Edward Cullen.
