Lend A Hand – Four Great Irish Causes To Get Behind This Week

These Irish causes need your help.

Sue Murphy

Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out.

1. Know Your Neighbour Weekend, Macra na Feirme.

Macra have launched the annual Know Your Neighbour Weekend which is taking place on the 12th and 13th July. The theme this year is ‘Neighbours – Near and Far’ as Macra encourage you to include your neighbours who are living abroad. You can do this by organising a skype call and getting everyone in the community to say hello to their distant friends or send them a postcard letting them know you’re thinking of them.

You can find information on the weekend, event ideas and resources to download like posters, invites and name badges on knowyourneighbour.ie – it’s where you can register your event. You can also register your event by texting ‘KYN’ followed by your name and address to 51444.

2. Family Fun Day in aid of St John’s Ward & Our Lady’s Hopsital.

Katie O’Rourke wrote to us to tell us about an amazing event happening all in aid of St Johns Ward and Our Lady’s Hospital.

“I’m writing to you to look for you support on event that we have organised in Aid of St Johns Ward & Our Lady’s Hopsital. Back in February my two year old niece was diagnosed with a Wilm Tumour this is a cancer of the Kidney, but thankfully with the proper treatment and the speedy service from the hospital she received Chemo and had her kidney removed in May and is now cancer free. So to celebrate and say thank you we are throwing a Family Fun day with the help of our fairy friends from the Irish Fairydoor Company in the Beautiful Woodlands and Grounds of Strokestown Park House on the 6th of July to raise much needed funds for St John’s Ward & Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin.”
