Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out.
1. Gavin Glynn, Life Saving Treatment plea.
Gavin Glynn was diagnosed with cancer at 17 months and has been battling the disease ever since. He has been told that he has no other treatment options in Ireland so this is last hope. Gavin and his family need to raise vital funds he needs to receive potentially life saving treatment in Texas.
If you would like to help, and they really need your help, please take a pic with their favourite little guy with the tag #myboy to help spread the word and encourage people to donate. People can donate by texting GAVIN to 50300.
Here is Gavin’s story:
2. Serve – Building Projects Zambia
On the 3rd of July, Keith McCarthy will be departing with 11 others for Mazabuka, Zambia. While there, he will be involved in building projects and youth leadership training. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to provide building supplies and any equipment needed while in Zambia.
SERVE is a development and volunteering organisation committed to tackling poverty in the developing world. If you would like to donate, please log on to Keith’s page for more info.
3. Dublin Museum Hunt 2014.
The Dublin Museums will run a Dublin Museum Hunt on Saturday 21 June 2014. Bring your friends and family – the more the better, your camera / mobile phone – to hunt for happiness across the museums, and a sense of adventure. Registration is by donation and the suggested donation is €5.
The event is all in support of Aware. Since 1985 Aware has been offering support and information for people who experience depression and their families. There is more information on the event here.

5. Make-Up Drink-Up Stand-Up
Joseph Eugene Patrick Maloney needs your support!
“Having been very impressed with all the ladies posting their ‘no make-up selfies’ to raise awareness for Breast Cancer, I went and shot my mouth off and said I’d post one WITH make-up, if 50 of you contributed to the Testicular Cancer Awareness work done by The Marie Keating Foundation. Many of you responded and I was very . . . em . . . grateful. Yeah, grateful. -ahem-
So, it’s on – upon the 50th contribution up on here, I’ll set it up and post the results. Not content that I’d look silly enough posting a full-on make-up-ed selfie, (which TOTALLY would’ve been done in soft-focus, very dark and from a great distance) the deal has been amended slightly. In addition, I’m now to:
1. Have my six-year-old daughter apply said make-up
2. It’s to include liberal amounts of ‘sparkly glitter’ (although I think that was a given based on #1 above)
3. I’ve to have a pint in a city centre venue on a busy Friday night (Not a Tuesday morning at 10am, damn legal team)
4. Finally, join The Craic Pack live on stage (to a full house) for Comedy Improv at The Bankers
Right so. *gulps* Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated, I just need 50 of ’em.* But hey, I understand these are difficult times so, y’know . . . take your time and that. :)”

6. Sing Against Suicide
#SingAgainstSuicide is an unauthorised campaign designed to promote the activities of the Samaritans and their efforts to combat mental and emotional afflictions which often result in suicide. The campaign consists of the sale of MP3s over a period of a week, one per day, for a total of seven recordings which can be purchased and downloaded from this website.
A auditory sample with a duration of no more than twenty seconds will be uploaded each day in conjunction with the full MP3. The sample will be available to listen to from the Songs page of this website; however to listen to the full version, the MP3 must be purchased for €1.50 from the Store page of this website.
For every €1.50 spent on this website, €1.00 will be donated to the Samaritans while the remainder is automatically transferred to third parties involved in the administrating process of this campaign.
The campaign will finish at midnight on Thursday, 26/6/2014. Any proceeds after this time will be used to fundraise for equipment to enhance and improve the quality of recordings for future projects. You can find out more info here.
7. Dogs for the Disabled and the Irish Prison Service.
A National Charity, Dogs for the Disabled, has launched a pioneering partnership with the Irish Prison Service whereby prisoners are actively involved in the breeding process and care of the assistance puppies, under the supervision of the charity.
