Jersey Boys Make Their Way Back To Dublin

Irish audience's were beggin' them to return

Laura Holland

After a hugely successful stint in The Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Jersey Boys are coming back from the 13th to  23rd January.

This is the first show in the history of theatre that will be back less than a year after it originally opened.

Jersey Boys is the remarkable true story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and their rise to stardom from the wrong side of the tracks. These four boys from New Jersey became one of the most successful bands in pop history, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and sold 175 million records worldwide, all before they turned 30.

We spoke exclusively to Lewis Griffiths, who plays Nicki Massi in the popular show, ahead of their return. Speaking about the show, he said, “It’s a whirlwind stage play, cleverly directed and narrated through the back catalog of the Four Seasons.”

“The story will take you through the timeline of when they started, when they found each other, right the way through the ups and downs to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” Lewis continued, “with the one story told through four different perspectives.”

He added, “The Irish audience is a breed unto its own. I don’t come to The Bord Gais Energy Theatre enough, because it’s a humbling, pleasurable experience to be performing to the Irish audience. They take in everything, they love the story, they love the atmosphere and they give it back to you tenfold”.

The show is packed with their hits, including Beggin’, Sherry, Walk Like A Man, 1963 (Oh What a Night), Big Girls Don’t Cry, Bye Bye Baby, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Working My Way Back to You and Who Loves You.

I went along to see the show when it came to Dublin earlier this year and it was absolutely brilliant. The boys had the whole audiences on their feet at the end, with everyone dancing and singing along to their finale.  It doesn’t matter if you weren’t their biggest fan, or even alive when they were at the height of their fame, you’ll still know all the song performed and thoroughly enjoy the show.

Jersey Boys will play at The Bord Gais Energy Theatre from 13th to  23rd January.
