The Marriage Foundation – a UK based think tank – has conducted a study of 3,500 adults to find out what acts or decisions make couples more committed to each other and the results are surprising to say the least!
Buying a house and having a baby ranked high on the list of acts but Barry Benson, a spokesperson for The Marriage Foundation said that while it’s natural for people to rate a child more highly than a pet, statistical research in the US shows that getting a pet is a much better indicator of how serious a couple are.
“Research on cohabitating couples show conclusively that getting a pet is a better indicator of staying together than having a baby,” he said.
“Having a baby is a huge commitment but it is not necessarily deliberate.
Kim got a kitty off Kanye but then she gave it away. Wonder how they’ll fare with baby Kimye…
“When you have a baby, it may feel like you are committed but it is more of a ‘constraint commitment’ than a ‘dedicated commitment’ and dedication is what successful relationships are all about.”
The report also found that couples who included each other in a will were found to be more committed than those who shared a bank account.
And they say romance is dead…
