It was a tough day on the court for Hibernia.
It was a rough day for an Irish club side made up of players from teams in the Men’s Premier League in the FIBA Europe Cup today as they fell to a heavy 106-45 point defeat against Czech heavyweights, CEZ Nymburk.

The first quarter was a multi-national shootout as players from the US, Iceland, Belgium and Cuba poured in 28 points and Nymburk were patient, missing just three shots in the first half and proving to be relentless on defence.
Despite the tough test though, Hibernia fought on, with Lehmon Colbert thriving under pressure, and Roy Downey driving forward at any opportunity.

Luke Thompson was also on-form from the free-throw line, while Conor Grace and Ciaran O’Sullivan netted some early three pointers.
Despite their best efforts though, Nymburk led 59-30 at half time and a second half onslaught from the Czech side saw them drive home to a comprehensive victory.
Speaking after the game, Colin O’Reilly, who was forced to withdraw from the starting line-up due to injury, looked to put the result in context.
“We have a generation of players who haven’t played international basketball,” he said.

“This entire project is about giving guys access to this level and there’s an average age of 23. It’s a baptism of fire, but players can look themselves in the mirror and see where they have to improve.”
This was Hibernia Basketball’s final away game in the FIBA Europe Cup Group F, their next three games will be held in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght between now and December 2nd.
