Irish Women’s Squad Named For Amsterdam Sevens

The Irish Women’s sevens squad that will line out at the Amsterdam 7’s Rugby tournament this weekend has been named.

The side will be led on to the pitch by captain Lucy Mulhall, who recently scooped the IRUPA Women’s Seven Player of the Year award.

The 12-strong squad features a number of big names from the Irish rugby scene including Eimear Considine, Katie Fitzhenry, Stacey Flood, Louise Galvin, Shannon Houston and Jenny Murphy .

Also representing Ireland will be Claire Keohane, Alison Miller, Claire Molloy, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe and Emma Murphy.

“It’s important for the squad to get competition time ahead of the European Championships in June,” said IRFU Director of Rugby Sevens, Anthony Eddy.

“This is the beginning of the journey to qualification for the Olympics in Rio 2016.

“As a squad we are very clear and focused on what we need to do over the next few months.

“Everyone has worked really hard and knows it’s time to put in the performance and deliver.”

Ireland will take on Ushizi Warriors, Finland 7’s, Norwegian Vikingette’s on Saturday, 23d May, with play offs taking place on Sunday, 24th May.
