Irish woman living in Perth receives “holy water” care package but it’s not what you think

You can't beat an Irish Mammy!

Cathy Donohue

This is actually gas.

Irish Mammies are great: who else puts a hot water bottle in your bed, says ‘bye’ a gazillion times on the phone without ever ending the conversation, and has a solution to every single problem?

We’ve had a fair few Irish Mammy stories to date, this one is a personal fave but in fairness, the latest one might be about to take over.

Suz Tutty-Heaney is currently living in Perth, Australia but work requires her to travel to Pilbara for three weeks of every month.

Following this stint of tough graft, she gets a week off to chill in Perth and on a recent return visit, she had a surprise care package from her Mammy, who lives in Hollywood, Co. Wicklow.

It wasn’t Dairy Milks and Tayto crisps, however, as this particular package contained a very specific item, disguised as “holy water”.

Speaking to JOE.ie, Suz said:

“Today, after a long 4 weeks I got back to my house in Glendalough (yes, a name sake of Glendalough Co. Wicklow), I came home to a parcel from my mam.”

“Not sure what it was as I wasn’t expecting anything and I see she has noted on the customs declaration its description as St. Kevin’s Glendalough Water (Holy).

“This didn’t surprise me as Mam wouldn’t be unknown to sending such items so I ripped open the padded envelope which was protecting the box.

“Once I got through the several layers of packaging this is what I found, Glendalough Poitín!”.

What an absolute legend.
