Bad news from the Irish camp this evening.

Shane Long has been ruled out of Ireland’s clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina this coming Friday.

The Republic of Ireland striker – who scored a fantastic goal against world champions Germany at the Aviva – is suffering from an ankle injury he sustained during the last group game against Poland, but it is hoped that he may be able to feature in the return leg of the Euro 2016 play-off on Monday.

“Shane Long will not be involved in Friday’s first leg as he will remain at Southampton for further treatment on his ankle injury,” the FAI stated.

“But he has not been ruled out of next Monday’s second leg at the Aviva Stadium.”

Jon Walters is also set to miss the first leg in Bosnia this Friday.
