Did you know about this?
At this time of year, many of us struggle with our sleep, we’re simply way too warm and it’s always still so bright out making it nearly impossible to get a full night’s rest.
And getting to sleep isn’t easy, and after trying everything under the sun it often feels like nothing works.
But one thing many of us swear by is white noise, and it turns out we all have a built in feature on an iPhone that makes our lives so much easier.
White noise machines can cost up to €100 and while Spotify and Apple Music have playlists for this, they never last through the night.
Any Apple device running on iOS 15 or later actually has a white noise built in, meaning if you have an iPhone 6s or newer, you definitely have this available.
So what is white noise? Dr David Neubauer, an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioural sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has the answer.
He told HuffPost: “The key feature of the sound devices is the constant sound in contrast to changing sounds like with music, radio and television.
“Our brains pay attention to changing sound, but a comfortable constant sound can help lull us to sleep.”
But how does this work on your phone? The feature is under “background sounds” and to find this, you need to go to settings, then accessibility. The onto audio/visual and that’s where it will be.
Once you click on background sounds, you hear the relaxing noise of nature to help get you to sleep. There are different sounds to choose from like rain, stream and ocean.
And of course, the volume can be adjusted to suit you.
