Most of us go onto Instagram to ogle over an idealistic life.
Maybe it’s clothes, maybe it’s wanderlust or perhaps you spend days watching cookery snippets convinced you can be the new queen of quiche.
Sometimes we follow celebrities for a glimpse of their lifestyles, looking at the lives we wish we could have.
Stila Sanders is a model living in London. Having previously graced the pages of Maxim and FHM, the beauty had amassed more than 35,000 followers when she recently decided to change the style of snaps she was uploading.
Inspired by Essena O’Neill, Sanders decided to post a series of ‘real’ shots to her account.
Nothing was off limits, including trips to have colonic irrigation, a psychotherapy session to deal with her anxiety and some of the less glamourous aspects of being a woman – like bleaching your ‘tache:
Thought I’d post you a photo before my pedi! Anyone who wants to take up running, I’d advise you not to. My toe nails are falling off, I have swollen ankles and disfigured toes. Delicious! A photo posted by STINA SANDERS (@stinasanders) on
Harley Street isn’t just to fix your nose or your boobs – You can also fix your mind! I’ve just finished an intense 2 month psychotherapy session to sort out my anxiety issues. It’s been over two weeks since my last panic attack ? Depression and anxiety isn’t something to hide away from. Get talking! A photo posted by STINA SANDERS (@stinasanders) on
Speaking to the Huffington Post, the model spoke about the thousands of users who stopped following her feed during her project:
“To see a photo of my bowel movements and not me in a bikini must have annoyed a lot of them. It’s that kind of ‘I didn’t sign up for this’ attitude. Perhaps sharing my real life was too much for them. It’s interesting to see that real life is not to everyone’s taste. Perhaps Instagram is an escapism from reality. I see so many women comparing themselves to other people’s images, whether that’s the girl down the road or a Victoria Secret’s model. It’s just silly. No one is perfect.”
