We kept up a long distance relationship for over a year. The baby and I visited him often until in 2007 he was finally able to get a visa to come to Ireland.
He proposed with a very romantic proposal in the street at a fireworks display at a minute past midnight New Years Eve 2007.
Unfortunately things weren’t easy and he found it nearly impossible to get work at first. In 2008 he found a job that meant travelling a lot but we made it work as much as possible.
In 2008 I had our second child and though it was a struggle, I thought we we’re madly in love.
We spent our time planning our wedding and making provisions for the future. We even went house hunting! Life was really great. As a boyfriend he was near perfect. He was romantic, kind, caring, charming and I'd have trusted him with my life. We had our ups and downs like any couple but I was sure I wanted to spend my life with him.
In 2010 he had to travel to Bulgaria for work and we stayed in constant contact until September. Gradually the contact lessened until it eventually completely stopped. I was worried sick.
Nobody heard from him, not even his boss. I tried to contact members of his family on Facebook and one day as I typed the surname into Facebook a familiar face popped up.
There, right in front of me, was my fiancé, the father of my children and the love of my life dressed in a suit with his new wife beside him.
I browsed more and sure enough I found a tonne of pictures from their wedding day in October.
He eventually called on New Years Day 2011 at 6.30am and even had the audacity to ask me to collect him from Dublin Airport. He pretended like nothing was wrong and when I confronted him he said it wasn’t what it looked like.
That was the last I ever heard from him. It’s like he vanished into thin air. His friends and family all stopped talking to me and his parents even stopped calling to speak to the kids.
I still don’t know how he managed to pull the wool over my eyes – they say love is blind and I guess they're right”

This is one of the most beautiful hotels in all of Ireland and you need to visit this summer
This is one of the most beautiful hotels in the country There’s no denying that Ireland is one of the most beautiful places in the world, even more so during the summer months. I’m hoping to spend more time in Ireland this summer rather than heading abroad, and there’s one hotel I’m itching to visit […]

‘I’m a 35-year-old in HR, earning €26k, and this was my biggest financial mistake’
I’m a 35-year-old in HR, earning €26k, and this was my biggest financial mistake Let’s be honest, most of us are at least a little bit nosy when it comes to money. We want to know what other people are earning, how they’re actually getting by, and what their spending really looks like (not the […]
