As The Simpsons once quoted, “You don’t make friends with salad”…. Until they found bacon flavoured sea-weed.
If you’re on the ultimate health kick and drinking smoothies of kale and leaf concoctions, you might want to get your hands on dulse – a strain of algae packed with protein that happens to taste like bacon.
Oregan State University has patented their latest strand of the seaweed, with chief researcher Chris Langdon saying:
“There hasn’t been a lot of interest in using it in a fresh form. But this stuff is pretty amazing.
“When you fry it, which I have done, it tastes like bacon, not seaweed. And it’s a pretty strong bacon flavour.”
Boasting twice the nutritional value of kale, this is one we wouldn’t mind trying.
