Cathy’s Choice: Lighting Up The Sky for Oscar

Cathy says: I’m not sure that favourite story is the best term for this but it’s one that resonated with me all week.

Five-year-old Oscar Knox lost his fight with neuroblastoma last week and on Sunday night, paper lanterns were released into the Belfast sky in tribute to the little boy. Oscar had been battling cancer since he was two years old and his bravery knew no bounds.

Sue’s Choice: Lay You Down On a Bed of Roses…

Sue says: My favourite story of the week was Kim Kardashian’s love affair with her wall of flowers. Kanye had bought the wall as a gift for Mother’s Day and Kim decided she was going to make good use of it, posting several selfies. Just hilarious.

Rebecca’s Choice: Would You Walk On By?

Rebecca says: This story really stood out for me this week because it highlights a major social issue and, at the risk of sounding too philosophical, I think it’s really cool that people are using the trend of the viral video to inform the masses of problems within society.

Grace’s Choice: I Did It My Way

Grace says: ‘Classic Album of the Week’ is something that I started a number of months back and it is a feature that I love like it is my own child. In my absence there have been one or two picks that I wouldn’t necessarily agree with (ABBA Gold) however this week Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ was up.

May 14th marked the 16th anniversary of Sinatra’s death and it is his 1969 album release, ‘My Way‘, that this musical legend will be most fondly remembered. Charismatic, sharp, effortless and simply unforgettable, here is our tribute to one of the music industry’s greats.

Michelle’s Choice: The Red (Or Black) Wedding

Michelle says: This wedding video made me (and thousands of others) cry with laughter this week. Mayo-based videographer Mike Gallagher sent us this wonderful footage of Jonny and Shelly, taken six months before their wedding and played at the reception as part of a game for guests. In a case of “It really is a small world after all”, it turns out the groom was in my primary school class! I’m delighted he’s found someone who is very clearly his perfect match. This is brilliant.

Liz’ Choice: What Family is For

Liz says: My sister is one of my best friends. I know she’ll always have my back, and even when we were kids a spat couldn’t last ten minutes before one of us would give in and hug the other. She’s always been there for me, and when I read this story of Claire and Chloe, I had to share it with Marielli. These sisters prove that nothing competes with that kind of bond, not even a trophy. I may have teared up a little looking at it…

Marie’s Choice: “I Would Have Broken Both of Your Legs”

Marie Says: My favourite story this week was 2FM presenter Ryan Tubridy’s reaction to man convicted for domestic abuse during an interview on his show this week. The interview makes for really interesting, if uncomfortable, listening and it’s great to hear men speaking out on violence against women. Judging by the reaction from our readers to the piece, Tubs has got himself a few new fans!
