Sue’s Choice: One Last Day
Sue says: My favourite story of the week was the last day of this beautiful labrador called Duke which was told through this amazing picture series. Poor Duke suffered from osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumour in his leg and had his front right leg removed in hopes of stopping the cancer. Unfortunately, he lost his fight against the disease. This is truly heartbreaking.

Cathy’s Choice: The Best Birthday Ever
Cathy says: Generally birthday presents are received with a smile and a thank you but this little girl has a rather different reaction. Safe to say, she isn’t expecting this birthday present and gets a huge (and brilliant) shock. It’s well worth a watch, both ridiculously cute and hilarious!

Rebecca’s Choice: A Sad Story, With A Happy Ending
Rebecca says: I don’t often come across a story that makes me physically upset (as in hands on the side of my face, tears threatening my eyes upset) so that is why this story stood out for me this week because it did exactly that. I know it has a happy ending and everything but the journey broke me heart. I can’t go on, I’m getting choked up just thinking about it…

Michelle’s Choice: Floral Headband? Check
Michelle says: I’m off to Longitude this weekend and having already splashed out for tickets to Kanye, Kings of Leon and Elbow so far this summer, if I never see another ass hanging out of denim hot pants I’ll be a very happy woman. Something strange takes over thousands of Irish music fans when an outdoor music event approaches, and it’s perfectly summed up in this piece Grace posted earlier in the week.

Liz’ Choice: Someone Like Her
Liz says: I don’t think I’m the only woman to have fallen in love with Adele. The lady knows how to pen a song to any heartache you could dream of feeling and we all remember that BRIT Award performance where she had to choke back her own tears. It’s rare to have a real talent like this, and I’m going to be waiting anxiously for any leak from her upcoming album ’25’.
Forget ‘Someone Like You’, we’re happy to wait for the real thing, and the wait is nearly over.

Grace’s Choice: There Are Many Ways of Being Smart
Grace says: This week my favourite story has to be the viral letter from an English Primary School teacher that was sent home with children ranging between the ages of 9-11 who received exam results. I have three sisters and we all have very different academic abilities, talents and strengths. One or two excelled in the arts, the others in practical skills, and this letter reminded me of how tough the schooling years can be for a young kid. Thankfully, with teachers like Amy Birkett, children are reminded that test results don’t mean everything and there are many ways of being smart. Am I getting slightly emotional? Yes, yes I am.

Marie’s Choice: A Hardy Boy
Marie says: Ever since I was a child, I’ve wanted a dog and ever since I was an adult, I’ve wanted Tom Hardy so when photos of the beautiful actor playing with his labrador on the set of Legend surfaced this week, they made me very happy indeed. I’ve also since made one of them my screensaver. Don’t judge me.
