Cathy’s Choice: One Big Step

Cathy says: Kayden Kinckle is a two-year-boy who had his right arm and left leg amputated due to a condition called an omphalocele. The video in the piece below shows the little boy as he uses a walker and although he stumbles a couple of times, he soon gets the hang of it. His happy cry of “I’ve got it” had me smiling and crying at the same time.

Rebecca’s Choice: Breaking the Law

Rebecca says: While some are starting to find Jennifer Lawrence annoying, I still can’t get enough of her. I loved how she was messing around with Emma Watson at the Dior show. Also, her dress for the after-party dinner is A-MAZING.

Sue’s Choice: Screw You, Germany…

Sue says: My favourite story of the week was the drinks promotion that went wrong in the Roisín Dubh in Galway. The bar ran a promotion for the Germany v Brazil match promising that the price of a pint would be reduced for every goal scored. Unfortunately, there was a total of 8 goals scored in the match. A pint of Erdinger ended up costing about 50 cent.

Michelle’s Choice: Breaking Chains and Breaking Hearts.

Michelle says: This weekend I’m off to meet a rescue elephant and feed her some apples. True story. Elephants are my favourite animal, so the story of Raju, freed after over 50 years of captivity, broke my heart this week. I have nothing but admiration for amazing wildlife charity SOS, who heard of his plight and decided that they needed to help.

Liz’ Choice: Remote Access Contraception

Liz says: Taking the pill is one of those little necessities in life. There are also no words for the pure fear and terror when you forget to pop that tablet or you miss your time slot. (Cue days of panic until Aunt Flow comes to town)

Then this week they announced a new way of contraception for 2018 – a remote controlled chip in your arm. That’ll last 16 years. Yes, it’s going to take some time to work out the glitches, and nobody wants to know the effects of dead batteries in the remote, but I’m intrigued. Very very intrigued.

Grace’s Choice: If The Concert Never Comes…

Grace says: My favourite story this week is a Garth Brooks related article… Shock, horror! While Garth’s gigs at Croker hang in the balance I decided to put together five summer events that should not be missed. I am a woman of simple pleasures and love nothing more than sitting back and listening to some fantastic music, even that music happens to be made by a group of handsome divils like this lot below, then it is juts an added balance. From incredible support line ups to stage veterans, here are the top five gigs to go to in case the concert never comes…

Marie’s Choice: Party at Picnic

Marie says: I was pretty much inconsolable after missing last year’s Electric Picnic and have been planning my September trip to Stradbally for a while now. So, I was very excited to hear this week that Other Voices will now be curating a stage at the Laois festival and am very much looking forward to a wander in the woods for some great tunes!
