Any plans for the June Bank Holiday weekend yet? If not, join us. Team Her.ie will be off to Limerick for the weekend, as we’ve just learned that the Treaty City will be hosting the first every World Chip Championship.
The first Irish National City of Culture, Limerick will crown the first World Chip Champion in the Spiegeltent during the Culture & Chips food carnival in Limerick City Centre running from May 29th to June 2nd.
During the afternoon of Saturday May 31st a host of chefs will cook up a storm, each hoping to take home the inaugural title of World Chip Champion 2014.
Organisers promise us something a bit more special than your post nightclub bag with salt and vinegar though, they’re teasing us with mentions of pulled pork fries, Poutine, baked mozzarella sticks and kale chips.
There will be two rounds in total and the judging panel is already salivating at the prospect. Judges include Masterchef’s Nick Munier, Dan Mullane of acclaimed The Mustard Seed and Lorraine “italianfoodie” Fanneran.
Other events in the Spiegeltent include the Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow live, A Wine Goose Chase, Culinary Carnival Banquet, Spiegelkidz Rhythm, Cabaret des Frites, Spiegeltent Breakfast Club, Jack L live, Clown Noir, Salon du Chat, and the Brad Pitt Light Orchestra live.
And if any city in the country knows a thing or two about chips, it’s the home of Donkey Ford’s and Chicken Hut. Roll on June.
