One of the stars of our favourite television show Modern Family has got engaged!

There are celebrations all around today as Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays lawyer Mitchell Pritchett in the hit comedy, proposed to his long-term boyfriend Justin Mikita.

Justin happily accepted his romantic offer.

In a video posted on the website of the newly created foundation Tie The Knot, which supports the fight for marriage equality, Ferguson said; “”It’s true, I popped the big Q.”

To which Justin replies; “I said yes!”

Ferguson, 36, and his 27-year-old boyfriend have been dating for nearly two years. The couple said they hope their union will eventually be considered official everywhere in the United States.

The fun-loving couple have also teamed up with Tie Bar to create a collection of bowties, with all proceeds being donated to various organisations to help gay and lesbian couples receive civil rights. The couple said they want to use the advantage of being in the public eye to fight for their beliefs.

But love is not as infectious around the Modern Family as we would have hoped for. His co-star and on-screen boyfriend Eric Stonestreet recently split from his long-term girlfriend.

The actor, who plays Cameron Tucker, and Broadway star Katherine Tokarz decided to end their three-year relationship “a couple of months ago”.

His representative confirmed the split but said Eric is keen to find love again, saying; “Eric is happy and looking to date.”

We wish him the very best…
