Television presenter Andrea McLean has revealed that she had given up on love when a blind date changed her life.
The Loose Women star separated from her second husband Steve Toms in 2012 and said she had become so demoralised with romance that she decided that she “wouldn’t bother with men anymore”.
“When you get divorced, you feel scared and vulnerable and you don’t want to get hurt again. No one gets married thinking it isn’t going to last forever,” she explained.
“The break-up of my second marriage was so painful I struggled to bring myself back from the brink. I was extremely sad about thinking I would never meet anyone again but I got my head around it. That was how my life was going to be.”
However, her colleagues on the ITV show soon noticed her unhappiness and decided to set her up on a blind date with current beau Nick.
The couple have now been together for over a year and Andrea said that she is happier than she has been in years.
“Apparently Nick very nearly didn’t come and I very nearly didn’t go either. We only went because we didn’t want to be rude to our friends.
“If it wasn’t for my friends, I probably would still be sitting in every night. I could have been lonely for the rest of my life. Who knew that night would change everything?”
