In a cruel irony, hundreds turned up to the funeral of a man who died alone on Christmas day.

Marek Skiba, a Polish native living in Ireland, died alone in his Ennis apartment on Christmas day.

Ennis lady Josie O’ Brien phoned Liveline to appeal for help to fund the formerly homeless man’s funeral, comedian Brendan O’ Carroll came up trumps and offered to cover the costs of his burial.

The Mrs. Brown’s Boys star is known for his great generosity, having donated Christmas dinner to over 2,000 homeless individuals this past Christmas via Saint Vincent De Paul.

At the requiem mass, held yesterday, Father Alan Cook told hundreds of mourners that Marek was a “soft soul who only wanted a beautiful ordinary life”.

However according to the Irish Mirror, those at the St Peter and Paul Cathedral in Ennis, Co. Clare, also heard that his “life was marked by hardship and struggle but also the kindness of others”.

Josie O’ Brien, who made the original call to Joe Duffy, described the funeral mass as “beautiful.”
