It’s the age-old question – how do you know when you’ve finally met ‘The One’? Well according to a recent poll, you know your man is your perfect mate when your friends and family like him too. But is it really that simple? Eh… yes, apparently.

Popular dating website WhatsYourPrice.com asked 1,000 male and female members to name the physical attributes that they look for when they’re searching for their soul mate. They also asked volunteers what would make them realise that they had met the person they would spend the rest of their life with.

Unsurprisingly, the women who were polled said that their dream man would resemble Ryan Gosling, while the men cited Victoria’s Secret model, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as their number one choice.

While the survey revealed that both men and women desire physical perfection in their ideal mate, their responses to the personality traits they craved were fairly different.

Sex and physical compatibility was the most important trait a relationship needed to have for men, whereas for women, this compatibility came in fifth place behind emotional security and approval from friends and family.

Hey girl: the poll revealed that Ryan Gosling is one of our dream partners

Overall, the results of the survey revealed that women believe they have found ‘The One’ when he makes them feel emotionally secure and her family and friends have expressed their approval of him.

“The most important thing is that your partner gives you the confidence and freedom to say what you feel and there’s a genuine empathy between you and a shared feeling of being wanted,” said dating expert Helen Croydon.

“People can put too much emphasis on defining the things that make ‘The One,’ often at the expense of enjoying the romance of a relationship. Obviously if things are good, we hope these feelings will last forever but if you obsess too much about making that happen, you can forget to enjoy your partner in the first place,” she added.
