As Horsemeat Gate continues, Findus is the latest company whose products have been tested by the UK Food Safety Authority. Their findings are startling, with 11 meals testing between 60 per cent and 100 per cent horsemeat.

Findus were forced to begin the testing after their French supplier, Comigel, raised concerns about the type of the meat in the product. Findus have since recalled 320g, 360g and 500g lasagne meals from supermarkets.

Many supermarkets have already withdrawn products, mainly ready meals, which they feared contained contaminated meat.

The product was mainly distributed to UK stores and smaller convenience stores with the Irish Food Safety Authority declaring that they are not aware of the product being sold in Ireland. However, the FSAI have warned customers not to consume the product if they have purchased it.

According to Sky News, the UK FSA have since asked all companies in the UK to begin testing their beef based products in the UK, claiming that criminal acitivty could be a cause of the contamination.
