Homeless Man Asked To Leave RTE Grounds Tells His Harrowing Story

He was interviewed today on Liveline

This is eye-opening.

A homeless man, known only as Joseph, has told his story on Joe Duffy’s Liveline after being “asked nicely to leave” his makeshift home on the grounds of RTE.

According to the Irish Times, the 27-year-old borrowed a phone from a hardware store in the Merrion Centre to make the call for help.

Joseph told his story on Joe Duffy’s Liveline.

Speaking on air, he asked that somebody give him a job or even a shed to reside in temporarily so that he could register for social support.

Joseph said he was a child of the Cottage Home in Dun Laoghaire, had been fostered to a “good family” in Rathfarnam at age 15 and completed his Leaving Certifcate Applied.

He went on to college in Dun Laoghaire before getting a job in McDonalds, which he later lost because of “youthful partying”.

Joseph decided not to take residence in a homeless hostel in the city centre because of the “aggression” of others and the presence of “dirty needles”, adding: “I’m not used to fighting”.

He told Joe: “I’m in a crisis at the moment and I’m homeless. I’m kind of stuck in the middle and I’m running out of options on where to go.”

He also detailed an incident whereby a security man asked him to leave the grounds of RTE because of complaints:

He said: “He asked very nicely for me to leave. I understand. It is a working place. People are going into work they don’t want to see that.”

Before the programme ended, Joe informed listeners that many offers of help were flooding in for Joseph and that he expected to have an update on his situation on the next episode of the talk show.
