With wedding season in full swing and our girl Michelle also planning a wedding (keep up to date with that here), we decided to take a look at some dream destinations that would definitely be on our honeymoon wish list.

Last week for Part 1 of our two-part series, we went off exploring some romantic islands for that dream start to married life.

This week we will be taking in some other stunning destinations, mixed with a splash of adventure.

Venice, Italy

Italy is the ideal destination for ‘amore’ as newlyweds can enjoy a romantic gondola ride through the Grand Canal. Visit the Piazza San Marco to admire the domes of the Basilica, and take in the sights of the Palazzo Ducale.

Handy hint: Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city with a romantic boat ride out to one of the stunning unspoiled islands nearby.

Santorini, Greece

Known for its gorgeous whitewashed walls and amazing sunsets, Santorini isn’t all about the beach, as there is in fact a lot to explore. Take a scooter around the ancient sites including Akrotíri, head to the wineries and check out the red and black sand beaches.

Handy hint: Book a room in the Perivolas hotel and reserve their Perivolas Suite for stunning views of the Aegean Sea.

Marrakesh, Morocco

The north African city is a haven for rock stars and other celebrities and you’ll certainly feel like you’re on the set of a movie. Take in everything the city has to offer including snake charmers, belly dancers, markets and horse-drawn carriage rides.

Handy hint: Take a trip to the former home of Yves Saint Laurent and stop at the Galerie ‘Love’.

Northern Lights

The stunning Northern Lights are a must-see regardless of when you decide to go. Take in a husky ride, stay in an ice hotel and in general, just be dazzled by the beauty around you.

Handy hint: Wow Air now offers cheap flights direct from Dublin to Iceland so you’ve really no excuse.

Thailand

The land of the smiles always has a welcome for honeymooners and from romantic island getaways to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, Thailand really has something for everyone.

Handy hint: For an extra dash of romance, head to Koh Phi Phi where you can take in the spectacular island made famous by The Beach.

New Zealand

New Zealand is the home of adventure and thrill seekers and with so much on offer across both the north and south islands, you won’t want to leave. Climb bridges, abseil down cliffs and discover amazing caves, before you head off white-water rafting. Every second of New Zealand is truly exhilarating.

Handy hint: Be sure to visit the Franz Josef glacier on the South Island and enjoy the brilliant nightlife of Queenstown.

Dubai

The jewel of the Middle East, Dubai offers adventure, shopping and brilliant night life all in one amazing city. Take a jeep safari into the sand dunes, head up to nearby capital city Abu Dhabi to explore the famous Mosque and hit the Dubai Mall for some brilliant shopping.

Handy hint: Stay in the Atlantis or the Burj Al Arab if you want to treat yourself – though to be fair, regardless of where you stay in Dubai the hotels are pretty amazing.

Tanzania

It’s time for Africa! A safari holiday in Africa is an unforgettable experience and a trip you will remember for the rest of your life. Head to Tanzania to discover some beautiful national parks, amazing scenery and of course, the Big Five.

Handy hint: Take some down time after the trip by heading off to the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.

South America

Discover the magic of South America on your honeymoon in what will truly be a trip of a lifetime. Explore the mysteries of Bolivia, gaze in awe at the scenery in Argentina and party in Brazil.

Handy hint: Head to Peru to take in the breath-taking views of Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail before taking some time to chill out in northern Peru at the beaches of Mancora.

The US of A

Why not head on a shopping spree to New York on route to somewhere fabulous like Mexico, Cuba or the Bahamas? You and your partner could also take a road trip down America’s west coast, with Vegas as the last stop.

Handy hint: Fly into San Francisco, rent a car and live the Californian dream.
