Here’s what to avoid if you’re looking for a new roommate

Some of the biggest warning signs.

Living with another person can be tough, living with someone who isn’t a family member or partner is even harder.

There are plenty of things that can get on your nerves when living with a flatmate but you should be aware of some warning signs before you move in with anyone to avoid any major disasters.

A recent post on Reddit asked about red flags when it came to flatmates and the answers varied from appalling to hilarious.

These are things you should definitely ask people about before you sign a lease.

Here are some of the worst.

“Writes their name on their food in the fridge, and eats your food because you didn’t write your name on yours.”

Reddit user yellowbythedozen adds that this genuinely happened to them.

“Mom moves him in while he watches. Mom sets his room up while he stares into his phone. Mom shops grocery and cooks it for him while he complains he’s hungry. Mom fills the fridge with pre-cooked meals while he eats. Mom cleans up everything and leaves.”

We worry about what happens once Mom leaves!

“If their smell enters the room before they do and sticks around after they leave.”

Hygiene is crucial.

“They bathe with the door open.”

Personal space is also obviously important. Just because you’re now living together doesn’t mean you share everything.

And possibly the most concerning:

“Looking for a pen in my underwear drawer.”

Like I said, personal space = crucial.
