Passport and camera in hand, I was stuck in traffic on the Dublin quays, my destination within sight.
The Celebrity Infinity cruise ship towered over the Dublin skyline, the white of the boat gleaming in the sunlight. I sat back in the stuffy taxi, it’s not too hard to prepare yourself for a day of luxury really…
And luxury it was. A glass of presecco in hand, our VIP group took a tour of the best bits as the ship’s guests spent the day in Dublin sightseeing. The Celebrity Infinity was halfway through its British Isles trip and guests were being treated to a rare fine day in the Emerald Isle’s capital.
All aboard now!!!
A restaurant where you’re presented your menu on an interactive iPad, a top-rated spa onboard, an upper deck with a natural grass lawn and a host of cocktail bars and pubs available, the ship is less “boat” and more “boutique hotel”.
The top deck was sheltered from the breeze and must have been topping a temperature of 20 degrees in the mercury. A jacuzzi, pool and bar were partnered by plenty of sun loungers with, yes indeed, a few soaking up the Dublin sun. My decision was made-this is where I would be spending my time onboard…
Cursing myself for forgetting the bikini.
You’ll find me at the pool…
The Celebrity Infinity cruise ship is renowned for two things in particular: service and food and this was evident throughout the day. The ship holds 2,070 passengers and there is time for a smile for absolutely everyone. This, on top of the high passenger-to-crew ratio, means you’d be left wanting for nothing during your cruise.
What an entrance…
The Celebrity Infinity was built in 2001 and underwent a massive makeover in 2011, which included the addition of some top class eateries.
Onboard, you can skip the main dining room altogether and spend your evenings in one of the fantastic speciality restaurants.
The Trellis Restaurant on Deck 3 offers a five-course Connoisseur Dinner, not including your tea and coffee. The menu offers luxury dishes such as Maine lobster bisque, porcini and morel risotto and crispy pork belly. You can also eat from the a la carte menu.
Drink? Yes, please…
A firm favourite of the group, however, was Q-sine. “Uniquely unordinary” the tagline reads and they’re right. Handed an iPad as a menu on the way in, the one-of-a-kind experience beings rightaway. The key in Q-sine is to “experience” the food. A selection of dishes from an eclectic Mediterranean/Asian mix can be chosen to share with your food experience buddies. If you care for a cocktail you can see how it was created on the iPad, creative cocktail shaking included!
Being shown how to use the iPad menu at Q-sine.
The Celebrity Infinity has plenty of facilities if you’re travelling with young children or the elderly, your trip can be catered for who you are and what you want your cruise experience to be.
The ship also offers a fleet of destination choices to choose from, including round trips of the Med, the Canaries, the Norwegian Fjords, Scandinavia and Russia, the British Isles and the Artic Circle.
