There is nothing like a themed party and being the fantastic hosts that we are, we like to know our guests are feeling the vibe.
Apart from wasting away a few hours compiling a frightening playlist on iTunes and spookify-ing our apartment, we’ve been racking our brains for some creepy cocktails recipes that will delight the devils this weekend. Whether it’s a cloudy glass of doom or a killer concoction we have the drinks menu sorted.
Dracula’s Brew
Okay, so we’re sure Bram Stoker’s creation wasn’t a big fan of coffee but an espresso cocktail is a splendid way to unnerve your guests and prepare them for the night ahead. This recipe serves six to eight people.
Ingredients
285 mls of freshly brewed coffee
285 mls of Cointreau or orange flavoured vodka
150 mls of coffee liqueur such as Tia Maria
Six to eight pieces of peeled orange
Method
Cool the coffee before making your cocktails.
Mix the ingredients together in a large jug and chill in your fridge until the party.
When serving, fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Shake well and serve in a martini glass.
Garnish with a piece of orange peel.
Knife Through The Heart
If there is any creepier cocktail than Martha Stewart’s Bleeding Heart Martini then we have yet to order it! We think her basic gin and tonic recipe will pump up the volume at any party. Everyone will be bustling to try. This recipe serves four.
Ingredients
230 mls of Gin
Tonic
Four pickled baby beets
Skewers
Method
Chill four martini glasses in the freezer and leave until frosty.
In the meantime, shake your gin over ice in your cocktail shaker and divide evenly between the glasses.
Garnish with a pickled beet on a skewer to spook your friends.
Bloody Hell Punch
Everyone loves a big bowl of punch at a party and it is the perfect treat for Halloween. Serve this bone-chilling mixture as the centre piece of your party. This serves 20 people.
Ingredients
Two litres of red grape juice
Five cardamom pods (crushed)
Four cinnamon sticks
One litre of vodka
Grapes
Homemade syrup
Method
Begin by making your syrup. Add 230 grams of granulated sugar and 230 mls of water to a saucepan and place on a medium-high heat until dissolved. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
In a large saucepan, place the grape juice, cardamom and cinnamon onto a medium heat. Bring to a simmer and remove for the heat. Allow to cool for 20 minutes.
Sive the mixture to remove lumps.
In a large bowl, combine the grape mixture with the syrup and the vodka and mix well.
Serve in tall glasses with ice and a chilled grape.
