Heading out and about this weekend ladies? If so, it’s probably a good idea to dig out your winter coat and wrap up warm because it’s going to be a cold one!

Yes, yes, we know cold weather doesn’t bode well for bare legs on a Saturday night, but according to Met Eireann, the low temperatures are going to be with us for the next few days at least.

Believe it or not, but yesterday the first snow of the Irish winter fell on Mouth Errigal and Muckish in Donegal and Truskmore in Sligo. Snow also fell in parts of Limerick and with the forecast for the coming weekend full of plunging temperatures, weather experts have warned that more flakes are likely to fall over the weekend.

Weather boffins at Met Eireann have already forecast snow on hills and high ground for Saturday and Sunday, and motorists are being warned to watch out for icy patches on roads as temperatures dip below zero.

Stay warm this weekend, it’s set to be a cold one!

Tonight is set to be very, very cold with bouts of hail, sleet and thunder likely. The lowest temperatures will be between 1?C and -1?C.

Tomorrow is set to be cold and bright, while Sunday will be chocked-full of showers and a cold, blustery wind. Awesome. Now where is that hat and glove combo we used last winter?

Unfortunately the news gets worse, as amateur weatherman and famed Donegal postman Michael Gallagher (who accurately predicted the ‘big freeze’ of 2010) has said that there’s plenty more snow on the way.

Are you hoping for a white winter? We don’t know about you, but all this weather worry seems like the perfect excuse for a duvet-based weekend. Stay warm girls!
