Ah good deeds, where would we be without them? It’s true to say that a little kindness from a stranger can go a long, long way – especially if you’re down on your luck. However one man ended up being a little bit too generous when he decided to do something nice for charity…
A man from Texas thought he’d do something nice for those less fortunate and decided to donate a pair of shoes to the charity Goodwill. Unfortunately what the man didn’t know was the fact that his wife had hidden the couple’s life savings in said pair of shoes. D’oh.
The man’s overly-generous offer was discovered by a Goodwill employee who was arranging recently donated items. The worker could barely believe his eyes when he discovered a wad of 33 $100 bills stuffed inside one of the shoes.
The employee altered his manager who set the money aside for seven days to see if someone would show up and claim it.
“We have policies here at Goodwill. We want to make sure we’re doing the right thing,” said the manager, speaking to a local radio station.
The man had no idea that his wife had been keeping a stash of money in the shoes
It wasn’t long before a woman arrived at the charity to claim the money. The woman was able to describe the money and the shoes in detail, so the staff reunited her with her money.
“She was so grateful. She was crying,” said a worker who was on hand when the woman arrived.
Apparently the woman explained that her husband had not been aware that she had been stashing some extra cash in the shoe over the past few years.
We’re not sure what we would be more upset over: the money or the fact that our hubby had given away a pair of our shoes without asking…
