If you’re one of the unlucky people who is back in work today, you might want to batten down the hatches and wrap up warm before you leave the house because honestly? It’s windy out there!
According to reports this morning, this weekend is set to be a wild one in terms of weather as Ireland is set to be battered by storm force winds and heavy showers of rain.
Winds reaching up to 140kn per hour are expected to hit the country this evening, with exposed, coastal areas bearing the brunt of the impact, while other regions will be hit with gusts of 50-80km per hour.
Tomorrow is also set to be extremely window with a risk of incredibly violent winds in western and northern areas. So, basically, if you have nothing else that you need to do, it’s a good weekend to cuddle up indoors and have a bit of a hibernation.
It’s a weekend perfect for staying in with a boxset and an endless supply of tea
“Extremely windy on Friday night with a risk of stormy conditions and damaging winds in coastal areas of the west and north. Saturday will be extremely windy while Sunday will be fresh and gusty west to south-west winds,” said a forecaster for Met Eireann.
“More persistent rain will spread from the southwest in the afternoon and evening with strong southerly winds,” the forecaster added.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is warning motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to be vigilant when it comes to the winds and to keep an eye out for any falling debris.
“Beware of objects being blown out onto the road and expect the unexpected,” said a spokesman for the RSA.
“Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road,” the spokesman added.
Wherever you are on this grey, miserable morning we hope you’re in out of the wind and you don’t have to venture out too much today (although if you’re still wrapped up in bed we’ll be honest and tell you that we’re totes jealous!).
